Camp Counselor

Camp changes lives. Are you ready for an amazing summer experience full of memories that will last a lifetime? Bellwether Farm Summer Camp is looking for responsible, enthusiastic individuals who want to spend their summer working as role models and mentors for children.

We are a traditional, overnight summer camp at Bellwether Farm, the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio’s Camp, Retreat, and Education Center. As a staff member at Bellwether, you will work, play, and live in a structured outdoor setting that emphasizes sustainable living, farm to table nutrition, and the shared values of people of faith.


  • Act in a professional manner as a role model for all campers, volunteers, and fellow staff.

  • Teach socially acceptable behaviors to campers by serving as a role model and by using age-appropriate positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies.

  • Actively facilitate friendships between campers, and handle group issues in a fair and age-appropriate manner.

  • Ensure all cabin activities and camp programs support the mission, vision, and values of Bellwether Farm and the Episcopal Church.

  • Ensure that the cabin is a clean, tidy, and physically and emotionally safe environment at all times

  • Know where the campers in your cabin are at all times.

  • Assist campers with personal care as needed, ensuring that campers develop a positive daily routine.

  • Be familiar with all information available on each group of campers, including the medical and behavior alert lists, and any other information provided by the support staff.

  • Assist as needed with planning and leading all camp activities, including but not limited to arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, songfests, nature hikes, and other games and hobbies.

  • Be fully aware of all safety and emergency procedures, and execute procedures when required, including ensuring that campers are aware of and understand all safety rules. Comply with all policies and procedures as listed in the staff contract, manual, and staff orientation, including “Safeguarding God’s People” policies for the protection of children and youth from abuse.

  • Attend and participate in required training and planning sessions

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability present ideas clearly and concisely.

  • Passion for working with diverse youth and ability to provide a high-quality of instruction using age-appropriate practices.

  • Proven ability to establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model.

  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors, and ability to relate to peer group.

  • Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, good judgment, patience, and self-control.


To be considered for employment applicants must be 18 years of age by June 11, 2022 and agree to a background check. They must be available to work our full season arriving June 11 and departing July 31. First year staff salary for the summer of 2022 is $250/week. Room, board and laundry is included.

Bonus of $250 paid for those with current Life Guard Training. We also reimburse for taking and passing a Life Guard Training course. Counselors will receive at least 1 hour off each day, and at least 24 hours off per week (typically Friday evening to Sunday morning).

We are committed to the health and wellness of camp staff and participants. If hired by Bellwether Farm, you will be required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination no later than your start date.
